As I turned 21 last week, somewhat of a big mile stone, I
thought I would write a letter to my 16 year old self. I don’t know about you
but 16 year old me was miserable, self-conscious and scared of what the world
had in store. If the big wigs had invented a time machine where I could go back
to that girl and tell her everything is going to be okay, here are the ten
pieces of information I would give.
Here it goes...
You get in to university so stop worrying
about getting all your work done. There is more to life than French and
Geography coursework.
Boys mature at a very different rate to
girls. Remember this when you have tears over one.
It SERIOUSLY doesn’t matter what other
people think of you. I wish I had
discovered this at an earlier age. Be more of your own person and don’t do
things to please those that wouldn’t do the same for you.
You know that new group of people you are
hanging round with who you think are really cool and funny but who you are
really quiet around. Hang in there; they will become some of the greatest
friends you could ever wish to have.
Don’t dye your hair black. It will look
horrific and take months to grow out.
You get to meet some of amazing characters
and experienced things at university that shape you.
You get to see your favourite band twice.
Both times you cry during Mardy Bum and
it is as amazing as you think it’s going to be.
You do get your nose pierced and that
tattoo you’ve been talking about since you were twelve and as much as mum hates
them, you love them.
There are still really shitty times to come
but they make you love your family more than you thought was humanly possible.
You learn not to think too much and it’s probably
the best thing you’ll ever do.
